President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's campaign for a second term in office is a "cowardly campaign", with lies being spread to deceive the people, said opposition candidate Dr Mohamed Muizz.

PPM-PNC presidential candidate Muizz, who does not usually respond to criticism from his rivals, responded to some of them on Tuesday. He responded to the allegations made against him at a campaign rally held in R. Alifushi on Tuesday.

"They keep spreading lies such as how we are trying to stop development projects and that we will cut the youth from the workforce,” Muizz said.

"People talking like this are very cowardly. It is a cowardly act. It's also uncivilised".

Muizz said it is being done in order to instill fear in the hearts of the people. He called on the MDP to be more responsible instead of doing such a cowardly campaign.

“It is very uncivilised to talk so deceivingly,” Muizz said.

Muizz also said in Alifushi, as he does at every island he visits, that the current government's projects in the island would not be stopped under his government.

“I would like to say that in this island, the airport project in this island is something that [we] want to do for you more than they do,” Muizz said.

"We will make the project complete faster and hopefully make it a reality soon”.

Other promises Muizz made to Alifushi:

  • Reclamation of land to add space for industrial purposes

  • Establishment of a bank branch

  • Conversion of the health center into a good quality hospital

  • Establishment of sports facilities for youth

  • Establish a sustainable waste management system

  • Expansion of guesthouse business

"So, we want to do a lot of development for you. I'm sure the people of this island will give us a big majority of your votes," he said.
