Maldivian government on Wednesday dismissed its deputy ambassador in the United Kingdom over political differences as the government tries to secure re-election in a run-off presidential poll later this month.
Naushad's termination letter, signed by minister at the President's Office Abdulla Waheed, was delivered Wednesday.
Naushad also supported speaker Mohamed Nasheed in the ruling MDP's presidential primary in January. President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih secured the MDP presidential ticket after defeating the former president in the primary.

Official results of Saturday's presidential election show main opposition PPM-PNC's Dr Mohamed Muizz leading the polls with 46%, while President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih secured 39%.
To win outright, a candidate needs more than 50% of the votes. As no candidate crossed the threshold, a runoff between the top two contenders will take place on September 30.
