Parliament speaker Mohamed Nasheed said on Tuesday that he will work to transfer former President Abdulla Yameen, who is jailed for 11 years for accepting a bribe and money laundering, to house arrest when he can meet Yameen to discuss changing the system of governance from presidential to parliament.
Nasheed had on Friday asked via the parliament secretariat to arrange a meeting with Yameen. However, Yameen declined the invitation.

Nasheed said that after meeting Yameen, he would do whatever he could to transfer Yameen home.
Nasheed's The Democrats are in talks with both the MDP and PPM about forming a coalition in the second round:

The Democrats has conditioned a referendum on governance system on September 25 -- four days before the presidential runoff on September 30 -- for a coalition
-
Negotiations with PPM-PNC have stalled as they do not want to sign a document
-
MDP responded to the Democrats with a counter proposal to hold the referendum within the current presidential term but after the election
