Maldives Immigration has launched an investigation into the "illegal" entry block of PPM-PNC presidential candidate Dr Mohamed Muizz's stepmother.
Muizz's stepmother is a Sri Lankan citizen, Skeelan Hussain. Recently, Adhadhu newspaper published a documentary claiming that Skeelan was deported and blacklisted from the Maldives after Muizz's father passed away while Muizz was serving as the housing minister in former President Abdulla Yameen's government. In the documentary, Skeelan, who was in Sri Lanka, spoke about it.
In a message sent to media, an Immigration spokesperson said on Wednesday that they found out about Skeelan's entry being blocked only recently.
"The incident is being investigated since then," the message said.
Muizz has not directly responded to allegations that his stepmother has been blocked from entering Maldives. However, after the documentary was released, Muizz said he had not violated anyone's rights.
Responding to the allegations, he said there was nothing to worry about. If there is a problem, he asked the relevant authorities to investigate it fairly.
"I have never done anything against the law and regulations. I will never. I will never do any such thing. [And] I have never violated anyone's rights," Muizz said.
