The long-delayed The Gardens and K-Park Residence flats, being developed in Hulhumale by two private companies, will be completed within six months, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih announced Thursday.

Jaah’s The Gardens flats and K-Park flats commissioned to be built by a foreign company have not been completed for seven years. Those who bought flats in these two high-rise buildings are suffering huge losses.

Speaking at a campaign rally on Thursday evening for the upcoming presidential runoff, President Solih promised to find solutions to the issues. He promised so, noting that this government also helped the people the previous PPM government  had evicted from the flats built in Gulhi lagoon.

Urbanco took over the completion of The Gardens flats last July.

The president said the facility would be completed and handed over to the people within the next six months.

In addition, he said:

  • The same will be done for those who bought K-Park flats

  • K-Park flats were given in the same way as the previous government gave islands to build resorts

  • Those who paid for the flats will be refunded through the courts

He said that several attempts to provide housing were incomplete and a lot of people were left on the streets. Apart from The Gardens and K-Park, he also raised the issue of SeaLife flats and flats built in the building where Gaakoshi and Arabiyya were located.

"All these are things that have caused great inconvenience to the people. We are finding solutions to these issues," he said, noting that those who paid in advance for SeaLife flats were compensated by the government and given opportunities in other housing projects.

He said that:

  • The flats were given on the land where Gaakoshi and Arabiyya were located

  • And it was done by the PPM/PNC candidate Dr Mohammed Muizz when he was the Housing Minister
