PPM-PNC presidential candidate Dr Mohamed Muizz, who won the second round of the presidential election on Saturday, has said that the country's affairs will move at a fast pace after he assumes power on November 17.

Muizz held his first press conference after being elected president for the next term.

Muizz said the second round results showed that the people want their own country back, in line with his campaign slogan Dhivehinnge Raajje. He assured that he would fulfil the responsibility entrusted to him by the people with “faithfulness, sincerity and honesty”.

Muizz said he would work in accordance with the law and the prescribed rules. He said he would move the country forward at "fast speed" after taking the oath of office.

“On November 17, hopefully, we will start our official work and the work that the people have decided to entrust us to move the affairs of the country forward at a very fast pace,” Muizz said.

"I assure the people that I will start working with a strong team that is brave enough to work day and night to shape everything in Maldives as per the peoples’ wishes".

President Ibrahim Solih was sworn in as president in 2018 on November 17, following the delay caused by the court's multiple cancellations of the previous presidential election in 2013. However, the president has said that like previous presidents, those who will follow him can be sworn in on November 11.
