In the name of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), spam links are being sent to people's phones.

A message containing a link to DHL, a package delivery service, has been sent to people's phones in the name of PPM. The message instructs for the receiver to click on the link provided to complete payment as the package is not being delivered due to non-payment.

Some people have been sent the message a couple of times.

The PPM said on Saturday:

  • That they are spam messages

  • The party asks of the people to not visit the link in the message

Last month, similar messages were circulated in the name of TMA asking people to pay for a DHL package.

Police then asked the public not to access the link in such messages and not to share their one-time password (OTP) or cash card information. If there is any relation between the message and the receiver, then it will be prudent for the person to contact the offices by phone for clarification.

Such spam links allow people to gain personal information and money, as well as passwords that are saved in the device. Fake messages have been sent in the name of various companies in Maldives in the past.
