PPM-PNC leaders in Addu to ready for parliamentary elections

The leadership of the two parties in the opposition coalition has left for Addu on Thursday to add members to the PPM-PNC in preparation for the upcoming parliamentary elections.
The leadership of the two parties on Thursday met with the media at the airport terminal at around 3:30 pm before leaving for Addu. Transition Committee Chairman Abdul Raheem Abdullah said the trip is to increase the number of members of the two parties.
According to Abdul Raheem, the purpose of the trip is:

In order to work closely with the people for the next five years, to meet with the people and listen to their concerns

On behalf of President-elect Dr Mohammed Muizzu, to thank the people of Addu for their efforts in winning the recently concluded presidential elections

To discuss the need for the help of Addu people in the upcoming parliamentary elections

With the hopes of adding new members to both parties, the PPM-PNC left for Addu to prepare for the parliamentary elections. President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih received 42.12% of the vote while Muizzu received 37.15% of the vote from Addu in the elections.
The two parties have announced that they will contest the parliamentary elections together despite the party's president Abdullah Yameen's recent statement that the PNC members will not have to join the party in the campaign to increase its membership. The opportunity will be open from 20 to 31 of next month for those who wish to contest on the tickets of both parties. The two parties will hold a joint primary on January 20.
The five-year term of the current 19th parliament expires on May 28. According to the law, members must be elected for a new term before April 29, 2024.
The Election Commission expects the election to be held in late March or early April next year.
