MDP-JP talks for parliamentary elections

The main opposition party, the Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) and the Jumhoory Party (JP), held a meeting on Wednesday to start talks to work together for the upcoming elections.
The first meeting with some leaders of the two parties to start the talks was held at the MDP office on Wednesday.

The meeting was held to discuss ways to work together in the upcoming elections

Following the talks between the two parties, further meetings will be held to identify ways to work together in the upcoming elections
The upcoming elections include a by-election for the mayor and some of the council members. After the elections, the parliamentary elections are also scheduled to be held.
The meeting was attended by the party leader’s wife and deputy leader of JP Aishath Nahula and the party’s Kendhoo constituency member Ali Hussain.
The MDP Parliamentary Group Leader, Alifushi MP Hussain Mohammed Rasheed, Vice-Speaker of Parliament, Hoarafushi MP Ahmed Saleem and some party MPs were present.
The JP has started talks with the MDP and held political talks with the ruling PNC two weeks ago. The meeting was attended by the PNC President, President Mohammed Muizzu.
