Naseer nominated as Maldives' UN envoy
He also served as Permanent Representative of Maldives to the United Nations from July 2017 to May 2019.
President Mohamed Muizzu has nominated Dr Ali Naseer Mohamed as the Maldives' permanent representative to the United Nations.
The nomination of Naseer, who was appointed as ambassador at large on November 17, was read out in Monday's parliament sitting. It has been sent to the parliament's foreign relations committee for review.
A decision on the approval of Ali Naseer will be taken after the committee decides on the matter and sends it to the parliament floor for a vote.
Naseer since joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in May 1985, served in various posts at the Ministry and at Maldives diplomatic Missions, including as Foreign Secretary from November 2013 to July 2017.
He also served as Permanent Representative of Maldives to the United Nations and Ambassador of Maldives to the United States and High Commissioner to Canada from July 2017 to May 2019.
He last served as Secretary, Multilateral at the Ministry until he left the Service in September 2022.
Naseer earned his PhD from the Australian National University, and his Masters from the University of Leicester, UK.
