Pres advisor Abdul Raheem to contest parliament election
The PPM-PNC primary is scheduled for the 23rd of this month.
Presidential Special Advisor and ruling PNC Chairman Abdul Raheem Abdullah has decided to contest next year's parliamentary elections.
Abdul Raheem announced his decision in a post on his Facebook account on Monday.
Abdul Raheem announced that he will contest next year's parliamentary elections in his native and previously represented L.Fonadhoo constituency.
“I sincerely ask for the support of the people of the constituency,” Abdul Raheem wrote in his post.
He contested the 2019 elections for the 19th Parliament but lost in the election and the constituency is now represented by lawyer Moosa Siraj who contested the election on an MDP ticket.
-
Siraj left the MDP during the last presidential election and joined the PNC in support of President Muizzu
-
Siraj is now the leader of the ruling coalition representing the PNC in parliament
A section of the public has been alleging that Abdul Raheem, who is a special advisor to the President at the level of senior minister, is misusing his authority in the government to appoint his family members to high positions in the government.
The PPM-PNC primary is scheduled for the 23rd of this month.
In an earlier interview with Atoll Times, Abdul Raheem said he would shape his political future according to President Muizzu's advice. He said his political future is in the hands of President Muizzu and that despite his interest to contest, that would be the president’s call too.
