Hamid Shafeeg and Vais Waheed, who were promoted to the rank of Major General of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) in the previous government, retired on Tuesday after more than 33 years of service.
Shafeeg was also the Principal Director of the Army Directorate of Operations and Training and served the military for more than 33 years.
Vais, who was also the commandant of the Marine Corps, served in the military for more than 34 years.
Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih promoted Shafeeg and Vais from Brigadier General to Major General in March last year.
The MNDF did not say the reason for the retirements.
