President Mohamed Muizzu on Wednesday unveiled plans to start a project in February to develop new residential buildings to rehouse the residents of Sinamale and Male Hiya flats in Male and Vilimale.

He made this announcement while speaking at a ceremony held at Dharubaaruge by the Local Government Authority (LGA) to give away the Kangathi Awards 2023.

The president noted that the project aims to rehouse the residents without them bearing any costs for the rehousing. He expressed concern over the deterioration of the Sinamale and Male Hiya apartments and assured the residents that he would find a sustainable solution.

He detailed that numerous housing projects would be simultaneously planned and implemented throughout the nation during this presidential term to resolve housing issues permanently, adding that he would end the cycle of false promises made by politicians during campaigns.

President Muizzu reaffirmed the government's housing plans for the Male region and emphasised that the additional land from Ras Male and Gulhi Falhu, along with Giraavaru Falhu and Hulhumale, would provide a lasting solution to the Maldives' long-standing housing crisis.
