PNC wins 2 out of 3 Male city council seats in by-election

Adam Azim, who contested from opposition MDP, was elected mayor of Male in the by-election.

The ruling People's National Congress (PNC) won two seats in the by-election held Saturday to elect members to the vacant seats in the Male City Council, provisional results show.

The by-election was held Saturday to elect a candidate for the vacant mayoral post and councillors for the Central Henveiru, Maafannu South and Henveiru South constituencies.

According to the provisional results of the Elections Commission:

  • PNC's Hassan Nizam elected as Henveiru South councillor

  • PNC's Aminath Rishfa elected as Maafannu South councillor

  • Ahmed Rishwan, from the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), won the Central Henveiru seat

Adam Azim, who contested from opposition MDP, was elected mayor of Male in the by-election.
