Only one woman secures ruling party ticket in parliament primary
Two female candidates will contest the parliamentary elections on the PPM-PNC ticket.

The provisional results of the ruling PPM-PNC primary held on Saturday to elect candidates for the Parliamentary elections showed that only one woman secured a ticket.
The ruling coalition’s primary for the March 17 parliamentary elections was held from 10 am to 5 pm Saturday.
In this primary:

283 candidates contested for 73 constituencies

71,597 people were eligible to vote
According to the list of candidates contesting the primary, just 29 of the 283 candidates that contested the primary were women. Men won tickets to all the contested constituencies bar one.
The official results of this primary have not been announced yet. However, according to the provisional results, Asma Rasheed, who contested the Maafannu Central constituency and was a member of the 18th Parliament, has secured the ticket.

Former Makunudhoo MP Anara Naeem, who contested the Huraa constituency, also faced defeat
Two female candidates will contest the parliamentary elections on PPM-PNC tickets. Besides Asma, President Mohammed Muizzu's sister Fathimath Sauda is among the 13 candidates who won the ticket without a primary. She is contesting for the F. Nilandhoo constituency.
Incumbent President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu called for women to contest 20 percent of the seats in the parliamentary elections before taking office in November last year.
