A batch of the popular chocolate brand, Toblerone, has been banned from being imported and sold in Maldives, after receiving information that it is contaminated with plastic.
The Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) was informed through the European Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed and the WHO's International Food Safety Authorities Network that the contaminated batch of milk-chocolate belonging to the Swiss brand Toblerone has entered Maldives.
The chocolate was tainted with plastic due to a problem with the chocolate making machine, the MFDA said.
The MFDA said the contaminated chocolate could cause a piece of plastic to get stuck in the throat or damage the teeth.
