The PPM/PNC parliamentary group on Monday said it would not allow the President to be removed from office even if the opposition started the process of collecting enough signatures to move a no-confidence motion against President Mohamed Muizzu.
The opposition majority in the parliament rejected three ministers in this government, but the PPM parliamentary group leader, Eydhafushi constituency MP Ahmed Saleem, said the no-confidence motion against the president would not be allowed.
Saleem said the PPM and PNC would not allow the opportunity to move the no-confidence motion against the President.
"We will not allow it. We will stop it," Saleem said.
Mahibadhoo MP Ahmed Thorig said the results of the last presidential election showed that things do not always go the way the opposition MDP wants.
"An ending parliament is trying to remove the president. That will not happen," Thorig said.
He said he was happy that some members of the MDP voted to approve the government ministers on Monday, against their own parliamentary group whipline.
“It also shows that the MDP is not going to reach the numbers it wants even within itself,” he said.
Thorig said there would be members in both the MDP and Democrats who would not sign an impeachment petition.
