The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched an investigation into the Badminton Association of Maldives (BAM), following allegations of corruption.
The ACC said on Tuesday that it has received a number of corruption allegations against the BAM.
An ACC investigation team is currently working at the BAM to obtain the necessary documents and other information.
The ACC has not yet released any further information on the case.
However, recent allegations of corruption have been levelled by the media about the association's interests being used to facilitate BAM President Moosa Nasheed's own business and the association's handling of matters related to its finances.
Former Maldivian badminton player Moosa has been the president of the BAM for the last eight years. The ACC's sudden investigation comes ahead of fresh elections.
However, the Sports Commissioner has ordered the postponement of the election. He ordered this because he wanted to amend some of the issues in the charter related to the election, according to some media reports.
BAM buys a large number of badminton-related equipment through Moosa's own shop, Askani Sports.
