The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched an investigation into the Badminton Association of Maldives (BAM) and its president Moosa Nashid.
The ACC on Tuesday raided the association in connection with allegations of corruption in the BAM. The commission said that it was to obtain documents and other information related to the allegations.
The ACC said on Saturday evening that it is searching several properties related to the president of the association under a court order for its investigation.
The ACC has not yet released any further information on the case.
Several media outlets have recently exposed allegations of corruption by BAM president and former badminton star Moosa about the use of the association's interests to favour his own business and handling of association funds.
Moosa has been the BAM president for eight years now. The ACC's emergency investigation comes ahead of fresh elections. Meanwhile, the Sports Commissioner had ordered the postponement of the election. He ordered this because he wanted to amend some of the issues in the charter related to the election, according to some media reports.
BAM buys a large number of badminton-related equipment through Moosa's own shop, Askani Sports.
