Maldives and Turkey are in the process of finalising a free trade agreement.
The first meeting of the discussions was held at the Economic Ministry on Wednesday.
In an 'X' post, Economic Minister Mohammed Saeed said that after the official visit of President Mohammed Muizzu to Turkey, many efforts are being made to strengthen trade relations between the two countries.
“The work is currently underway to formulate a free trade agreement with some specific goods to be proposed by the two countries,” he said in the post.
President Muizzu signed an agreement on strengthening trade and economic relations between the two countries during his official visit to Turkey in November 2023.
The visit was followed by the signing of an agreement on staple food imports from Turkey and the opening of a Maldivian embassy in Turkey.
