The country's football governing body, Football Association of Maldives (FAM), had their power supply cut off from the FAM House on Sunday, having failed to pay MVR 6.5 million in due utility bills to STELCO.

STELCO tweeted announcing that services have been disconnected to the FAM House due to non-payment of electricity bills.

"FAM has repeatedly been asked by this company to pay the MVR 6.5 million due to the company and been given several opportunities to submit a plan on how to pay it, but since they have not responded, the power supply to FAM House has been suspended," STELCO’s tweet read.

STELCO also said that it was considering suspending power supply to other FAM buildings.

FAM has not made any comments regarding the issue.

FAM has been facing a lot of financial issues. The national team officials have not been paid their salaries for months now. There are also hurdles in paying the monthly salaries of FAM employees.
