MTCC to build airports in Vilufushi and Bileffahi

It is this government's policy to develop a domestic airport within 30 minutes of every residential island, resort or industrial island.

MTCC has been awarded the project to construct airports in Th.Vilufushi and Sh.Bileffahi.

Contract agreements were signed between the Ministry of Construction and MTCC at two separate ceremonies held in the two islands on Thursday.

Bileffahi Airport work contract was signed by:

  • Construction Ministry State Minister Ibrahim Nazeem

  • Deputy Managing Director Hassan Mughnee on behalf of MTCC

Under the agreement, a 1,500-metre runway, passenger terminal, office building and fire building will be constructed at Bileffahi. The cost of the work is MVR 256 million.

Vilufushi Airport work contract was signed by: 

  • On behalf of the Ministry of Construction; State Minister Hassan Rasheed

  • On behalf of MTCC; Chief Project Management Officer Ahmed Latheef

Under the agreement, Vilufushi airport will have a 1,800-metre runway, a passenger terminal, a fire building and an administrative building and an airfield lighting system. The cost of the project is MVR 277 million.

The Ministry of Construction has entrusted MTCC to carry out surveys and EIA work for the development of Sh.Komandoo and Th.Guraidhoo airports.

It is this government's policy to develop a domestic airport within 30 minutes of every residential island, resort or industrial island.
