A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed with a Chinese government-owned company to build 1,000 housing units in Eydhafushi in Baa atoll.
The MoU was signed with the Chinese government-owned Sinohydro Corporation at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure on Wednesday.
Construction Minister Dr Abdullah Muthalib signed the memorandum on behalf of the ministry.
The agreement to build 1,000 housing units in Eydhafushi comes in the wake of President Mohammed Muizzu’s promise in April that such a project would be implemented very soon.
The President said he would give the necessary permits to build 1,000 housing units in Eydhafushi and the project would be launched very soon.
The project will benefit Eydhafushi as well as the entire Baa atoll. The project will also solve the housing crisis in the area, the President had said.
