The top court annulled the high court's injunction saying the state could suffer millions in losses if the dredging is stopped.
The Supreme Court on Wednesday annulled an injunction to lift the temporary suspension of the dredging of Gulhifalhu, a lagoon near the capital Male.
A local environmental activist had filed the lawsuit with the Civil Court claiming that the dredging of Gulhifalhu was causing irrevocable damage to the environment, and she had sought a temporary injunction which was originally denied by the lower court.
The High Court issued the interim order when the case was appealed saying that if the case drags on, the damage to the environment from the dredging would be irrevocable.
The Attorney General had challenged the first appellate court's injunction at the Supreme Court.
