Speaker Abdul Raheem and MP Riza appointed to judicial watchdog

The JSC is responsible for investigating ethical issues of judges and promoting them.

Parliament Speaker, Fonadhoo MP Abdul Raheem Abdullah and Maafushi MP Hussain Riza were sworn in as members of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) on Tuesday.

Supreme Court Judge Dr Mohammed Ibrahim administered the oath of office to them at a ceremony held at the President's Office on Tuesday. President Mohammed Muizzu handed over the letter of appointment to the duo.

The JSC is responsible for investigating ethical issues of judges and promoting them.

Besides Abdul Raheem and Riza, the current JSC members are:

  • Vice-President of the Commission, Mohammed Niyaz - A judge elected by the High Court

  • Justice Husnu Al Suood - The judge elected by the Supreme Court 

  • Ali Shareef - A judge elected by the lower courts

  • Mohammed Naseeh - Chairman of the Civil Service Commission

  • Ahmed Usham - Attorney General

  • Member Mohammed Sameer - President’s Representative

  • Ali Abdul Latheef - Elected Member from Lawyers
