Maldives launches nationwide program to plant 5 million trees

At the COP28 meeting in Dubai last December, the President announced a 5 million tree planting programme.

The President and First Lady on Wednesday launched the 5 million tree-planting program.

The program was launched at a ceremony held at Lonuziyaarai Park in the capital city Male on Wednesday, to mark the occasion of World Environment Day.

This is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to protect the fragile environment of the country and overcome the adverse effects of climate change for the benefit and welfare of present and future generations.

The President also launched the logo of the Five Million Tree Planting Program at Wednesday’s ceremony.

At the COP28 meeting in Dubai last December, the President announced a 5 million tree planting programme.

"We prioritise making our small islands a vibrant, clean and green environment. Thus, we are committed to a project of planting five million trees across the country," he had said while addressing COP 28.
