The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Monday raided the homes of the committee that led the allocation of flats under the Gedhoruveriya scheme of former President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih.

The ACC confirmed to Atoll Times that it has raided the homes of suspects under a court order in connection with a case it is investigating.

An ACC official said the commission is searching the residences of four members of the previous government's flat committee. The places are:

  • The apartment of then State Minister of Housing Akram Kamaluddin

  • Committee member Mohammed Arif's apartment

  • Committee member Mohammed Lirgam's apartment

  • Committee member Ahmed Visan's apartment

The ACC official said the search is still ongoing.

A permanent list of beneficiaries of the Gedhoruveriya scheme was gazetted at the end of Solih’s term. Thus:

  • The term expired after agreements were signed with some of the recipients

  • The ACC launched an investigation after a large number of people filed complaints against the permanent list

  • 59.6% of the forms examined were found to be ineligible

A total of 20,696 people applied for flats under the Gedhoruveriya scheme. A list of 18,167 eligible people was released by the previous government's Housing Ministry.

The ACC examined the applications of 4,048 of these eligible candidates. Among the forms examined in the investigation:

  • Qualified, no-problem applications: 20.7%

  • Despite eligibility, problematic forms: 19.7%

  • Ineligible forms: 59.6%
