The Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure on Wednesday denied reports that the foreign worker who died on Monday was working on the Sinamale bridge, and has affirmed that the expatriate was from the Thilamale Bridge site.
It was in a police message to the media on Tuesday where the blunder was made, and the Construction Ministry rectified the mistake in an X post on Wednesday.
The Construction Ministry post said:
-
The deceased was an Indian citizen working at the Thilamale Bridge site
-
The contractor and the authorities are investigating the incident
“The news published in some newspapers that a person who was working on the repair of the Sinamale Bridge died is incorrect,” the ministry said in response to media reports quoting police.
"The Ministry would like to take this opportunity to extend its condolences to the family of the victim”.
According to the police message, the Indian man working on the bridge had experienced dizziness and fainted and was taken to Treetop Hospital in Hulhumale right away. The man was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
