Conjunctivitis, also known as pink eye, and Chickenpox are spreading rapidly in the Male area and some atolls. Some cases of hand, foot and mouth disease have also been reported.
The Ministry of Health on Thursday released statistics showing that from 23rd last month to 6th this month:

Conjunctivitis - 744 cases; the highest number of reports were in the Male area, Laamu atoll and from Fuvahmulah

Chickenpox - 201 cases; the highest number of reports were in the Male area, Lhaviyani atoll and from Addu

Hand, foot and mouth disease - 46 cases; the highest number of reports were in the Male area and the South Ari atoll
There are rumours on social media about the spread of chickenpox at Hiriya School. However, the school's Deputy Principal Dhiyana Ahmed Didi has denied these allegations.
