Police College students hospitalized for suspected food poisoning

About 200 youths are studying at the police college in the current batch and 28 of them are currently being treated in hospital.

Several students of the batch undergoing training at the Police College in Addu have fallen ill and are undergoing treatment.

Police, in a media message on Wednesday, said:

  • Many students of the Police College have been admitted to the Equatorial Hospital in Addu

  • The cause is being investigated by the hospital

When contacted by Atoll Times, police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner of Police Ahmed Shifan said that about 200 youths are studying at the police college and 28 of them are currently being treated in hospital.

One of the children is in a slightly serious condition, but most of the others are recovering well, he said.

The cause of the young people’s illness is still unknown and the hospital is conducting tests to determine what it is, he said.

There are rumours circulating on social media that the children are being treated for food poisoning. However, police have not yet confirmed this.
