Maldives' foreign minister Moosa Zameer on Wednesday called on the international community to uphold the rule of law in Palestine and and urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza.

He made the remarks in his address at the Open-Ended Extraordinary Meeting of the Executive Committee of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) at the level of foreign ministers in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Zameer expressed concern over the deteriorating situation in Gaza and condemned the actions of Israel against the Palestinian people. He emphasised the necessity for the international community to ensure that the rule of law is upheld.

He called for an immediate and lasting humanitarian ceasefire, stating that incremental aid to Gaza is insufficient. He urged the international community to facilitate the safe collection and distribution of adequate aid by humanitarian convoys.

Zameer reaffirmed the Maldives' unwavering commitment to the Palestinian cause, advocating for a lasting solution that includes the establishment of Palestine as an independent and sovereign state based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He also condemned the assassination of the Hamas's overall chief Ismail Haniyeh.
