Sports projects exceed 2-year state budget, minister says
Rafiu said the biggest challenge in carrying out projects is budget constraints.
The cost of sports projects is higher than the entire state's two-year budget, sports minister Abdulla Rafiu said on Wednesday.
The minister was responding to a question by MP Amin Faisal regarding the projects to be implemented in some islands of Shaviyani atoll.
Rafiu said the biggest challenge in carrying out projects is budget constraints.
“There are a lot of projects, and as I said before, all of our projects combined are bigger than the two-year budget,” he said.
Projects will be carried out in consultation with the island councils, he said.
Projects are still being announced at the end of the year due to the low budget allocation.
“It is done because [projects have to be started] from time to time,” Rafiu said.
Rafiu has previously said that some projects are delayed because the project changes after the projects are started. This stops such works without the necessary funds, he said.
