The Immigration authorities have announced that the list circulating on social media on Wednesday regarding the alleged Bangladeshi cat-meat vendor is fake.
The Bangladeshi man is accused of catching stray cats, taking it to his residence, butchering it and using its meat to make food, selling it in various shops in the neighbourhood.
The image that's been made to look like a screenshot of the Immigration Facebook page includes a large number of shops in the capital city Male.
An Immigration official told Atoll Times on Wednesday that it is not information released by the agency and no such list has been issued by the agency.
Bangladeshi Hussain Arafat, 32, was apprehended on Tuesday for allegedly making food from cat meat, and is now under immigration custody.
The place he used to prepare food was very filthy. Cats caught from different parts of the city are also kept inside the place.
Immigration said on Tuesday that Arafat was arrested in an operation conducted with the assistance of police. After his arrest, immigration released his photo. As is evident from the photo:
-
He was arrested while inside a barber salon
-
He was wearing a blue T-shirt and a cap
Immigration said Arafat was also living in Maldives illegally. He made his living by making burgers and submarines at home and selling them to shops.
