Maldives seizes 11.62 kg drugs

Customs said on Tuesday the items were seized during a search of a parcel brought through courier and a shipment brought by air.

Customs seized 11.62 kg of drugs smuggled into Maldives by air.

Customs said on Tuesday the items were seized during a search of a parcel brought through courier and a shipment brought by air.

On August 14, a package brought through courier was searched and suspected drugs were recovered from the package, customs said.

Customs analysed the items and found them to be positive for synthetic cathinone.

  • These weighed a total of 680g with packing

  • The street value of these items MVR 960,000

In addition, during the search of a shipment brought by air on August 19, customs suspected that drugs were concealed and further investigation revealed suspected drugs.

Customs said the items were analysed and found to be positive for heroin and cannabis.

  • The heroin weighed 740g with packing

  • The cannabis weighed 10.2 kg with packing

  • The street value of these items is MVR 8.9 million

Customs said the drugs seized weighed a total of 11.62 kg.

The seized drugs have now been handed over to the police for further investigation.
