Over 200 abandoned motorcycles removed from Male in a day

Once a vehicle is towed, the police will notify the owners in accordance with the regulations.

In a joint effort between the Male city council and police, 224 abandoned motorcycles were removed from the streets of Male on Saturday.

The operation, which began at 8am, was part of a broader initiative to clear Male city’s roads of unused and damaged vehicles.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the city council announced the completion of the task, emphasising that the motorcycles had been removed as part of their ongoing efforts to improve the cleanliness and accessibility of the streets.

According to the council:

  • The police decide the towing of the vehicles

  • The council’s role is primarily to assist in the process

  • Once a vehicle is towed, the police will notify the owners in accordance with the regulations

This initiative follows a similar programme conducted in February by the Ministry of Transport, in collaboration with the city council and other relevant agencies. During that effort, more than 100 vehicles were removed.
