Ukrainian appointed as CEO of Maldives' state fisheries company
Government removed the former CEO and MD, Ahmed Shamah Rashid, after allegations of corruption.
A Ukrainian national, Dr Vitaliy Lyubimov, has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director (MD) of the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO), the state-owned fishery enterprise.
Reliable sources have confirmed to Atoll Times that the Privatisation and Corporatisation Board (PCB), which oversees state-owned enterprises, selected Lyubimov for the role. He is expected to assume his responsibilities in the Maldives later this week.
According to Lyubimov’s LinkedIn profile, he holds a PhD in economics and public administration and has 20 years of experience in crisis management. His professional background includes transforming struggling companies into sustainable business operations.
His profile outlines the following credentials:
-
Head of credit and department roles in multiple banks.
-
Board member and advisor to various companies.
-
Chief Risk Officer for several capital funds.
This appointment follows a vacancy that has persisted since May, when the government removed the former CEO and MD, Ahmed Shamah Rashid, after allegations of corruption. Since then, the positions of CEO and MD at MIFCO have remained unfilled.
The search for a new CEO began in July. In the interim, a director was appointed to represent fishermen on MIFCO’s board.
