HDC reinstates fired staff; on suspension for questioning
The reinstated employees will be questioned separately as part of the ongoing investigation.
Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has reinstated employees who were fired in connection with an investigation into the alleged illegal allocation of land and flats in Hulhumale but they remain on suspension.
The allegations surfaced following the release of documents by an account operated by Hassan Kurusee. These documents implicated former HDC Managing Director Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed’s brother, Mohamed Fazeel, in the allocation of land under the Binveriya scheme.
An HDC official confirmed on Wednesday that the reinstated employees will be questioned separately as part of the ongoing investigation. Among those reinstated are Chief Financial Officer Abdulla Faid and Chief Business Officer and Head of Media Department Ahmed Yameen.
The investigation has also uncovered allegations of selling land at reduced prices and awarding flats to specific individuals.
Former Managing Director Fazul resigned on Saturday after being suspended from his position. Former construction minister Mohamed Mauroof Jameel has been appointed as his replacement.
In addition, all HDC board directors, except Chairman Ahmed Nasif, who were suspended during the investigation, had their suspensions lifted on Tuesday.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and the police are conducting investigations into the matter.
Passports of 20 individuals, including Fazul, have been seized. Police also conducted a raid on Fazul’s apartment on Monday night and confiscated several items as part of the inquiry.
