Sixteen individuals have submitted information through the portal launched by police for the investigation into the Binveriya and Gedhoruveriya schemes, which were introduced during the previous government to allocate land and flats in Male and its surrounding areas.
The investigation follows the leaking of documents two weeks ago, suggesting irregularities in the allocation of land under the Binveriya scheme. Allegations include the awarding of plots to individuals not on the official list. Prosecutor General Abbas Shareef has instructed the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
The police established the online portal on Tuesday, inviting the public to provide information or evidence related to the schemes. As of today, police reported:
-
Sixteen submissions have been received.
-
Four of these include relevant documents.
The police have encouraged more individuals to use the portal, accessible at https://evidence.police.gov.mv, to submit information. They assured the confidentiality of all submissions and clarified that individuals may choose to provide information anonymously or include contact details for follow-up by investigators.
In connection with the investigation, some individuals have been suspended, and travel restrictions have been imposed, including passport seizures. Among those implicated is Fazul Rasheed, the Managing Director of Housing Development Corporation (HDC), who resigned from his position following the allegations. Fazul denies any wrongdoing.
The investigation remains ongoing.
