The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has conducted a special audit of land recipients in Hulhumale under the previous administration’s Binveriyaa land allocation scheme and has requested the police to investigate its findings.

The audit follows concerns over the alleged allocation of land in Hulhumale to the brother of former HDC Managing Director Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed under the scheme, along with cases involving land sales at reduced prices and the transfer of flats to winners. Fazul was suspended from his position and later resigned.

In a statement issued Monday, the HDC reported that multiple individuals have applied for building permits for the same plot of land. The corporation is investigating the matter further and taking necessary action.

The HDC highlighted the following findings:

  • A special audit of land allocations identified additional concerns related to the landlord scheme.

  • The corporation has referred the findings to the police for further investigation.

  • Measures will continue to be taken to address similar cases in the future.

The corporation reiterated its commitment to maintaining integrity in its services.

In December, the police reported that three plots of land had been acquired using invalid documents under the landlord scheme, with six individuals submitting documents for the same plots. The HDC did not disclose the total amount of land affected.

As part of the ongoing investigation, all HDC board members were temporarily suspended over corruption allegations. Additionally, fifteen employees were suspended, with some later dismissed.
