Finance ministry official resigns from MMA board
His decision comes amid speculation regarding the government’s reported plan to raise MVR 15 billion through the MMA.
Ahmed Zayan Mohamed, the Ministry of Finance representative on the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) board, has decided to resign from his position at the ministry and has given notice of his departure.
A reliable source confirmed that Zayan, who serves as the head of the fiscal affairs department at the ministry, has submitted his resignation.
"He has decided to resign and has given notice by 15 May," the source said.
The reason for Zayan's resignation has not been disclosed. However, his decision comes amid speculation regarding the government’s reported plan to raise MVR 15 billion through the MMA. Neither the government nor the MMA has officially commented on these claims.
The government has faced criticism over money printing, with some experts warning that such actions could weaken the currency and lead to higher commodity prices.
