In a step towards sustainable urban development, STELCO is working to introduce Taiwan’s Gogoro brand advanced battery management system to the Maldives.
Managing Director Hussain Fahmy made the announcement in an X-post on Tuesday, emphasising how this initiative aligns with the Maldives' journey toward modernisation and environmental responsibility.
Fahmy revealed that Gogoro battery systems will be installed in different parts of Male, providing an opportunity for individuals and businesses to import Gogoro batteries and related bicycles.
In addition, test drives for these cycles will be arranged to generate interest in eco-friendly transportation and encourage people to switch to greener alternatives.
“With these battery systems and an EV charging station for cars, electric vehicle enthusiasts will fulfil their modern dreams of owning such a vehicle and further facilitate the government’s robust efforts toward an environmentally friendly and sustainable system,” Fahmy stated.
The initiative not only supports the government's goal of achieving 33% renewable energy but also contributes to the nation’s broader ambitions for development and civilisation. Fahmy highlighted that this effort would help reduce air pollution in Malé, improve public health, and create a cleaner urban environment.
“The people of the Maldives will always welcome such environmentally friendly and people-friendly changes,” he added, reinforcing the country’s commitment to sustainable innovation.
