The Ministry of Tourism has removed seven locations from the list of islands and lagoons previously announced for leasing for resort development.
In May last year, the government announced 17 islands and lagoons for tourism development. However, the ministry on Tuesday issued an amendment to the list through the government gazette.
According to the revised announcement, the following locations have been removed:
-
GDh. Raaverinkolhihutta
-
Four lagoons near Malé
-
One lagoon in Vaavu Atoll
-
GA. Beyrumaudda
-
K. Himmiya lagoon
No reason was provided by the ministry for the removal of these sites.
The change follows a recent decision by the president to increase the minimum investment threshold for projects related to defence, independence, and peacekeeping to USD 100 million.
