President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that he is working to declare next year as a national year of productivity.

The announcement was made during an interview with state media, PSM, while visiting the Maldives Expo 2025 exhibition on Saturday.

The President noted that the decision will be finalised through consultation and planning. He said the initiative aims to increase opportunities for productivity and that establishing a creative economy remains a policy objective of the current administration.

According to the President, the ongoing exhibition is part of broader efforts to expand the creative industry to contribute 15 percent of the country’s GDP by 2030.

He said the government will assist in digitising and distributing materials across the country and reaffirmed support for individual productivity efforts. He also noted that collaboration across all sectors is required to achieve both individual and national economic goals.

The President stated that the exhibition is intended to create opportunities for local productivity. He said the event marks a return after a long interval and that the level of public engagement can be seen in the participation at the venue.

The Maldives Expo 2025 was officially opened by the President last Friday. It is organised by the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade in collaboration with the Business Centre Corporation (BCC).
