
BML reports over MVR 540 billion in annual digital transactions

The Bank of Maldives (BML) has reported that it processes over MVR 540 billion worth of transactions annually through digital channels, according to Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Mohamed Shareef.
Speaking at the bank’s Annual General Meeting held at Nasandhura in Malé Wednesday, Shareef stated that more than 99% of BML’s transactions are now conducted digitally. He noted that the bank processes over 220 million digital transactions per year.
According to BML, physical counters across all its branches handle approximately 600,000 transactions annually, reflecting a continued shift towards digital banking.
Shareef stated that customer engagement with digital services remains high. The bank’s Internet and Mobile Banking platforms are accessed one million times per day in total. In addition, the bank processes 50,000 transactions daily through Point-of-Sale (POS) terminals and 238,000 card transactions each day.
He noted that the digital transition is central to BML’s current operational model.
