Maldives launches 'From Maldives' fisheries brand at London business forum
President Muizzu outlined investment opportunities in the Maldives across key sectors.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu officially launched the "From Maldives" fisheries promotion brand at the Maldives–UK Business Forum held in London on Thursday.
The initiative is intended to promote the country's sustainable fishing practices and position Maldivian seafood as a premium product for global export.
The launch was a central part of the forum, the eighth in a global series organised by the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade. The event gathered representatives from the United Kingdom’s corporate sector to discuss strengthening economic relations.
In his remarks, President Muizzu outlined investment opportunities in the Maldives across five key sectors: the creative economy, digital transformation, renewable energy, fisheries and ocean innovation, and tourism infrastructure. He also noted government reforms to improve the investment climate, including a new Foreign Investment Act and the reactivation of Special Economic Zones.
The forum also saw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the West London Chambers of Commerce and the Maldives' Ministry of Economic Development and Trade to enhance bilateral business engagement.
The Rt Hon Lord Marland, Chairman of the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council, addressed the forum, stating that investors are showing trust in the Maldives' future economic vision.
A panel discussion titled "Investing in the Future: A dialogue on Maldives Economic Vision" allowed participants to engage with the Maldivian delegation. The discussion explored potential partnerships in sectors including tourism, fisheries, renewable energy, waste management, and finance.
