HDC appoints staff probed in K-Park flat sale case to top role
Nafiu had been suspended and investigated by HDC’s internal audit following the case.
A Housing Development Corporation (HDC) employee previously investigated in connection with the fraudulent sale of K-Park residence flats has been appointed to a senior position at the company.
Abdul Nafiu Mohamed, formerly the general manager of HDC’s real estate management and property management division, was a shareholder in a company set up with minority shareholder Hassan Mamdooh. The company was used to sell apartments at the unfinished K-Park residences in Hulhumalé, bypassing the main shareholder of the development.
Nafiu had been suspended and investigated by HDC’s internal audit following the case. However, he has now been appointed Director of Business Development and Sales. Under the restructuring, Nafiu will oversee the business development section, while another director has been placed in charge of sales.
His appointment follows the dismissal of a previous employee, though the reason for that dismissal has not been disclosed. Separately, a senior female employee from HDC’s business development and sales section was suspended yesterday on allegations of fraudulently allocating land in Hulhumalé.
The fraudulent sale of K-Park flats involved more than 50 victims and a total of 23 apartments. Each case has been filed separately for prosecution. In addition to Mamdooh, another individual, Jaishan Saeed, has also been charged in the case.
