Allegations have been raised against the Housing Development Corporation regarding the sale of parking slots in Hulhumalé, with claims that funds were collected outside official procedures. The corporation has denied the allegations.
According to a source within HDC, more than 600 parking slots across seven locations in Hulhumalé Phase 1 and Phase 2 have been allocated through unofficial payments since early last month.
The source stated that amounts between MVR 35,000 and MVR 50,000 were collected from individuals. It was also claimed that the official payments and monthly charges for the slots are lower than the amounts allegedly collected.
The source further stated that the slots were allocated without a public announcement or established process.
Based on the figures cited, the allocation of 600 slots could involve around MVR 21 million. These amounts would not be recorded as official revenue.
Responding to the claims, HDC Information Officer Mohamed Siraj stated that the corporation has not sold or allocated any parking slots.
He said that the allegations are not accurate and that no payments would be collected for slots that have not been allocated.
Siraj confirmed that HDC is in the process of planning the allocation of parking slots and said further details would be shared with the media.
