The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) and the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) have appointed new chairpersons, following a period during which both posts remained vacant.

The announcements were made by the Privatisation and Corporatisation Board (PCB) on Thursday.

Aishath Nurain Janah has been appointed as the Chairperson of MACL. Nurain previously served as Chairperson of the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC). She holds a Master’s degree in Accounting from New Zealand. She resigned from MMPRC in May 2024.

Nurain is the daughter of Mohamed Ali Janah, Principal Advisor on Trade and Investment to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

The position of MACL Chairperson became vacant following the resignation of Mohamed Umar Maniku in January 2024. Maniku is one of the founding figures in the country’s tourism industry.

In a separate announcement, the PCB named Ahmed Shaheer as the new Chairperson of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC). Shaheer previously served as Managing Director of the State Trading Organisation (STO) during President Abdulla Yameen’s administration. He was also appointed Chairman of Fenaka Corporation under the current government but was later removed from that role.
