The government has established a new company to manage the import and distribution of medicines and medical equipment across the Maldives.
According to the President’s Office, the company — named State Pharmaceutical and Medical Supply Corporation Limited — has been formed under the powers granted to the President by the Companies Act. It will be wholly owned by the government.
The company’s mandate includes bulk purchasing, importing medical drugs, consumables and equipment, and ensuring their delivery to different parts of the country.
The announcement comes shortly after the government launched a prescription glasses service at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
