President Mohamed Muizzu has instructed the police and relevant authorities to stop and question foreigners found in public places during night hours.

The directive follows a meeting held by the President with residents of Galolhu on Tuesday, during which concerns were raised about the presence of foreigners outside late at night.

In a post shared on social media on Wednesday, the President said that some foreigners living in the Maldives were engaging in activities at night that affected public order.

He stated that the police and other relevant agencies have been instructed to stop and question foreigners found in public places and on the streets between 12:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. The President said the action was being taken in response to concerns that some individuals were acting contrary to accepted social norms.

According to the post, where legal action is required, the police and relevant agencies have been instructed to proceed in accordance with the law from Wednesday night.
